When a host is new to Airbnb, they won’t have any reviews until someone takes a chance on them and stays with them and leaves a review. That’s ok, and it happens to everyone! Likewise first time guests won’t have any reviews either! It can be a bit unnerving compared to others with reviews, but here are some tips to help you feel more comfortable staying with a host with no reviews.
Check photos to ensure they are verified with Airbnb. Make sure the owner has at least one verified phone number listed. Make sure the profile information listed for the owner is good.
You might also want to check with the owner on the cancellation policy, and consider asking them to change the cancellation policy to flexible. That way, if you arrive at the home and you are not satisfied, you could still receive your money back for the remainder of the stay with no questions.
You’ll definitely want to make sure the owner replies to your message in less than 24 hours. Ask all of your questions, and make sure you are comfortable with the answers.
Check and see if the owner has reviews on another property or guest. If they have reviews as a guest, go to the property where he was a guest and ask about him.
You could also ask the owner to add more verifications on Airbnb or call you using Airbnb VOIP.
Make sure the owner conducts all payments through Airbnb directly for security.
Above all, always trust your gut. If you take some of the above steps and still feel uncomfortable, maybe it is time to look for another place to stay. However, don’t give up on the property just because the owner is not rated. Most people deserve a chance, don’t they?!
