If you only have one takeaway from this article, let it be this: Don’t run out of toilet paper, not have a spare key, show up unannounced, or not have any towels! Those four things are essential!
Typically, you will have a little room to slide with your Airbnb guests.
No matter what don’t run out of toilet paper! Other essentials include napkins and paper towels. Think about when you have run out of toilet paper at a friends’ house and how that feels- don’t make your guests feel that way too!
Accidents happen. Keys get lost. Make sure you always have a backup plan. If a guest gets accidentally locked out in the middle of the night that will be miserable for both of you so have a plan of attack ready.
Don’t show up unannounced when your rental is occupied. Try to avoid going in at all unless it’s urgent. Otherwise, let it wait. Some examples of urgent situations include property damage, crime in process, or saving the guests from danger like fire. Otherwise, the guests may feel like you are invading their private space.
Finally, make sure you always have towels available for guests. Some people travel light and prefer not to bring a towel and washcloth. Having those available (especially multiple sets) is very helpful. Have an extra set (and of bedding too) so that you can easily swap these out between guests without having to launder the exact same set of bedding and towels before each new guest checks in.
If you can make sure those four things never happen, you will be off to a great start as an Airbnb host!
