Have you ever stayed in a hostel? Did you enjoy the low cost and the ability to save money by cooking in the shared kitchen? How about the ability to do laundry on the premises? And meeting new friends and sharing travel stories?
Great news! Airbnb has many of the same benefits as a hotel- there are often low cost rentals available, kitchen access, and laundry available! Depending on the situation and where they host resides, you can at the very least get recommendations from the host on local things to do (one of my favorite things about a hostel) but also potentially hang out with the host or walk around town with them!
Instead of having to share a room and bathroom with many strangers and wondering about the safety of your belongings, when you stay in an Airbnb, you (and your fellow travelers, if applicable) will know who you are sharing the place with. Depending on the situation, you may have the entire place to yourselves! Or, you may share with a host or host family. Regardless, you are still sharing with a lot less people than in a hostel, and it’s a little different when the people you are sharing with are the homeowners. You get to choose if you want to share or rent the whole place when you do your search on Airbnb for rentals in the area of your choosing.
You can come and go when you please from Airbnb without having to check in at the front desk or worry about disturbing your roommates in a hostel. Airbnb gives you more freedom with many of the same travel possibilities and benefits that you would have if traveling via hostel.
